A Rare Music Weekend

February 6, 7, and 8 were great days in Gardiner. For a change, the town was filled with music! There was a benefit for a dear friend Bruce at the Two Bit Saloon, which featured a pick-up bluegrass band, a local rock band, and yours truly. It was really fun to perform in town again, but more fun to be able to dance and listen to other music. Robert, an oustanding local banjo player and all around great guy was also hosting a bluegrass jam at his house in town. Musicians from all over the state poured in for jamming that lasted all day and all night. I managed to stop in a few times and sing a couple of tunes, but was humbled and inspired by all the great picking. All in all, a great weekend.

Current Favorite

Right now i'm listening alot to Lori McKenna. She's one of my favorites. Her songs are stark and real, and i'm incredibly inspired by her story of songwriting-housewife to stardom.  And it of course helps that her songs are incredibly good. I'm more familiar with Bittertown and Unglamorous than her other albums, although i've downloaded them and am getting to know them better.

Satellite Heaven

Two nights ago I enjoyed just sitting in the easy chair in the living room listening to the satellite radio. The station was XM The CoffeeHouse, and every song seemed to hit the right spot. I particularly enjoyed a number of songs that were live acoustic versions of older songs I hadn't heard for a while, or pop songs sung by different artists. First a live version of Indigo Girls singing Galileo, and then Stevie Nicks singing Tom Petty's Free Falling. I mean, who else could do justice to Free Falling but Stevie Nicks? Sarah McLauchlin singing the Beatle's Blackbird was pretty impressive too.

Here are a few artists I haven't heard much from before that I've discovered on XM, and which are definitely on my download list: Ray Lamontagne, Meg Hutchison, Alexa Wilkinson.

I ended the evening of listening with my eternal favorite, David Gray.

Getting Started Again

Hi there! After a long hiatus while I got accustomed to life in Yellowstone, I am again working on my music. I am starting a blog that will function as my website. It's in progress, so please be patient!

Stay tuned for posts about what is inspiring me at the moment, music i'm enjoying, and new song recordings.

Thanks for listening,

Jenny
